The Town of Whitestown has received a Community Crossings Grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) in the amount of $675,141.
The funds will be used to improve CR E 500 S from Main St to CR 575 E, and consist of subgrade improvements, repaving, and drainage improvements. The completion date will be determined after a contractor is selected.
“Roads play a critical role in our economic development and growth and bring important social benefits,” said Whitestown Director of Public Works Danny Powers. “Utilizing INDOT’s Community Crossings Grant allows us to stretch our funding by contributing half of the cost while INDOT will contribute the remaining half.”
Communities submitted applications for funding during a highly competitive call for projects in July and August. Applications were evaluated based on need and current conditions, as well as impacts to safety and economic development. To qualify for funding, local governments must provide local matching funds and submit an INDOT-approved asset management plan for maintaining existing roads and bridges.
Whitestown is one of 229 Indiana cities, towns, and counties that received a combined $119.4 million in state matching fund.
