Town of Whitestown receives more than $1 million for Big 4 Trail expansion

Apr 20, 2022 | News, Parks & Recreation Department

The Town of Whitestown has received a Next Level Trail Grant of $1.1 million to complete its portion of the Big 4 Trail.

“Trails make communities better places to live by encouraging fitness, creating opportunities for outdoor recreation, and strengthening local economies,” said Whitestown Parks Director Savannah Solgere.

The Next Level Trails program provides grants to invest in the development of regionally and locally significant trails throughout Indiana. To date, $120 million has been awarded to build 190 miles of trails across the state.

“Whitestown currently has 1.7 miles of existing trail. The extension to the west will add .85 miles and the extension to the east will add .7 miles,” said Solgere. “This will complete Whitestown’s portion of the Big 4 Trail.”

The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
