Smoke Testing

Smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system in the Legacy Core area has been postponed due to the weather. Once a new date is confirmed, we’ll share an update and notify all affected residents and businesses. The testing process is expected to take 1–3 days, depending on the number of leaks identified.

During this testing, non-toxic, water-based smoke will be blown into the sanitary sewer system to help identify any leaks.

This work is being conducted at the request of IDEM (Indiana Department of Environmental Management) to help locate sources of high inflow and infiltration in the downtown area.

The smoke used is completely safe, non-toxic, and water-based, and it will not harm people, pets, or plants.
