Development Services
The Development Services Department includes building, code enforcement, GIS, and planning – each of which help guide the safe and efficient development and maintenance of the community.
Most new development projects start in the planning review processes which may include approvals from the Plan Commission and/or Board of Zoning Appeals. Through this review process, the planning staff and Plan Commission use the Town’s Comprehensive Plan as a guide to implement the adopted vision of how the community desires to grow and the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) to ensure development standards are met.
Once a project is ready to start building structures, the building staff reviews permit applications and completes inspections to ensure builders comply with the applicable Indiana residential or commercial building codes.
Code Enforcement staff respond to submitted concerns and patrol the community to help maintain the standards established in the Municipal Code and UDO.
GIS (Geographic Information System) staff analyzes and displays geographically referenced information (i.e. parcels, town boundaries, zoning districts, utility data, streets and trails) through our web-based software to assist elected officials, staff, and the general public in making informed decisions
