Child Abuse Prevention Month

Organizations such as Prevent Child Abuse Boone County are committed to preventing child abuse and neglect, working to create a safer and more supportive environment for children. If you suspect a child has experienced neglect or abuse, please contact the Indiana Department of Child Services at 1-800-800-5556.

In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the pinwheel as the national symbol for child abuse prevention. Chosen for their connection to joy and childhood, pinwheels serve as a tangible reminder of the childhood experiences every child deserves. As they spin, the pinwheels symbolize the positive cycles of love and support that we hope every family can create. To honor Child Abuse Prevention Month, a pinwheel garden has been set up at the Whitestown Municipal Complex.

Autism Awareness Month

In 2023, the World Health Organization reported that approximately 1 in 100 children has autism. The abilities and needs of individuals with autism can vary and may change over time. While signs of autism can often be identified in early childhood, a diagnosis is frequently made much later. The Town Council encourages residents to learn more about autism and explore ways they can support individuals on the spectrum and their families.

We are pleased to have the Behavior Analysis Center for Autism (BACA) located right here in Whitestown, where they support children and families in developing the skills needed for a happy and fulfilling life.
