Town of Whitestown kicks off Farmers Market season on June 4

May 27, 2020 | News, Parks & Recreation Department

The Town of Whitestown has announced plans to safely begin operating its Farmers Market.

The first market will be held on Thursday, June 4 from 5-8 p.m. at Main Street Park (4286 South Main Street). It will continue weekly and conclude on September 24.

“The health and safety of our shoppers and vendors is of utmost importance,” said Whitestown Parks Events Coordinator Courtney Johnson. “We have been working with local officials, including the Boone County Health Department, to modify the Farmers Market to follow recommended guidelines.”

Per Governor Holcomb’s executive order, the market will be limited to essential vendors such as those who sell whole fruits and vegetables; meat, eggs, and dairy; and flowers and vegetable seedlings.

To encourage social distancing, vendors will be spaced out. All vendors will wear masks and gloves and products will be prepackaged (as necessary). Shoppers are also encouraged to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Shoppers may remain in their vehicles or visit vendors on foot, but must maintain a distance of six feet from other shoppers.

In addition, there will be no extra activities such as music, crafts, magic shows, etc.

The market can be accessed via one entry point and one exit point. Shoppers may enter via the south entrance off Indigo Blue Boulevard, and may exit through the east side of the park onto Main Street.

“As the season goes on, we hope to return to normal operations and add additional vendors,” said Johnson.
