On Saturday, March 16, 2019 at approximately 6:42 PM, Boone County Sheriff’s Criminal Interdiction Unit came into contact with a Mr. Tyren Barnes (24) as a result of a traffic stop.
Barnes had initially provided deputies with false personal identifying information. Once deputies realized he had given them false information, they went to place him into custody on a Tippecanoe County felony warrant. While attempting to do so Barnes fled north bound in the ditch on Interstate 65 near the 134 mile marker. Boone County Sheriff’s K-9 was on scene at this time and was released to apprehend Barnes. As a result, the K-9 mistakenly grabbed onto and bit one of the assisting deputies.
As other law enforcement officers arrived on scene, a 2nd K-9 was released by the Whitestown Police Department in attempt to apprehend the fleeing subject. At this time Barnes was apprehended and placed into custody.
Barnes, along with three law enforcement officers were seen by medical staff for minor injuries at the Witham Hospital. All three law enforcement officers were treated and released from the hospital.
