Whitestown park receives recycled bench from Mentoring Partnership

Oct 20, 2021 | News, Parks & Recreation Department

The Whitestown Parks and Recreation Department received a recycled bench donated by the Boone County Mentoring Partnership.

“This is the second bench Boone County Mentoring Partnership has donated in the past year,” said Boone County Mentoring Partnership Executive Director Matt Wilson. “We chose the location at Gateway Park in Whitestown because we want our mentors and mentees to enjoy the park together, and it’s a great opportunity to give back to our community.”

Several mentors and mentees from the Mentoring Partnership collected and cleaned 200 pounds of plastic caps and lids to create the bench which resides at Gateway Park in Whitestown. Boone County Solid Waste Management provided funding for the bench.

“We are grateful that the Boone County Mentoring Partnership chose Gateway Park as the location for their bench,” said Whitestown Parks Director Savannah Solgere. “Opportunities for social connection are important, and this bench will allow for just that – for the mentors and mentees who completed the project and for the community at large.”

The bench was manufactured by Green Tree Plastics in Evansville and delivered by MMI.
