Jul 13, 2019 | Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department

On the evening of Saturday July 13th, Whitestown Metropolitan Police Officers were involved with a vehicle pursuit that resulted in a vehicle collision. A WMPD Officer attempted to stop the suspect vehicle for several traffic infractions near the TA Travel Center in Whitestown, when the vehicle refused to stop. The suspect vehicle then accelerated to a high rate of speed, while continuing to commit numerous traffic infractions, as well as put other drivers on the road in danger. Other WMPD Officers joined in the vehicle pursuit, as well as Lebanon Police Department and Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

After pursuing the vehicle for a short time through Whitestown and on SR 267, the suspect vehicle entered Interstate 65, and began driving northbound in the southbound lanes towards Lebanon, Indiana. While driving northbound in the southbound lanes, the suspect vehicle eventually struck a digital construction sign, rolled over and came to rest in a nearby embankment. A WMPD Police Patrol vehicle also sustained damage as a result of the pursuit, but no officers were injured.

Law enforcement surrounded the vehicle, and located an adult male exiting the vehicle crawling through tall grass in the embankment. He was apprehended and taken into custody. They also located an adult female still inside the vehicle. Officers assisted her from the vehicle due to injuries sustained in the crash. Lebanon Fire Department/EMS arrived at the scene, and transported both occupants to a nearby Indianapolis Hospital for treatment. WMPD Officers later found open alcohol containers, drug paraphernalia, and multiple types of narcotics in the vehicle.

Due to a continuing investigation, suspect information and charges will be provided at a later time when both suspects are released from hospital treatment, and taken into custody.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Responding Agencies: Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Lebanon Police Department, Lebanon Fire Department/EMS
