Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to install a fence on my property?

The Town of Whitestown requires a Zoning Review for fences through the Planning Department. In addition to the Zoning Review, you must receive approval from your homeowner’s association (HOA) if applicable. If you have concerns regarding easements, drainage, and swells, direct your concerns to the Boone County Surveyor’s Office.

You may attain a copy of your plot plan from the Building Department by sending an email to dtaylor@whitestown.in.gov. Please include your address, neighborhood community, and lot number if known.

How do I receive my certificate of occupancy?

Upon receipt of payment, your permit/certificate of occupancy will be emailed to the email address registered with Mobile Eyes. The permits will need to be printed in color and posted as normal. If you are unable to print them, please let us know and a hard copy will be mailed to you.

For our builder communities, the gas certification stickers once attached to the permit will now be brought to the job site by the residential inspectors.
