On 10/3/2019, at approximately 9:40 pm, all Boone County law enforcement agencies were informed to be on the lookout for a possible stolen vehicle out of Indianapolis. The victims stated several purchases were made in Whitestown and surrounding areas using their credit cards.
While searching for the stolen vehicle, WMPD officers located a vehicle matching the description backed into a parking spot at the TA Travel Center in Whitestown. WMPD and ZPD officers confirmed through Boone County Dispatch that this was the stolen vehicle. After investigating officers also determined a second vehicle parked directly next to the first vehicle was also stolen out of Hamilton County.
WMPD and ZPD officers along with Boone County Sheriff’s deputies next established a perimeter around the TA Travel Center in case the suspects attempted to leave. Officers observed 2 males leave the TA Travel Center and walk up to the 2 stolen vehicles, and go inside them before quickly returning into the building and going into a room on the 2ndfloor of the building.
Officers attempted to make contact with the suspects for several minutes, and eventually detained them for questioning. After thorough investigation, it was determined the 2 males were responsible for the theft of both vehicles and both were arrested.
The males were identified as Steven Groves (28) of Indianapolis, and Augustine Anderson (21) of Indianapolis. Groves is incarcerated at Boone County Jail pending charges of Auto Theft, Basic Theft, Possession of Paraphernalia, Fraud, Criminal Mischief, and for a warrant out of Hancock County for Dealing in a Schedule III Controlled Substance.
