Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-65 Involving WMPD Officers

On 2/9/2021 at approximately 1:00 am, three WMPD officers conducted a traffic stop on I-65 near the 131 mm northbound. During the stop and roadside investigation, a white sedan traveling northbound struck a WMPD Patrol Vehicle, which resulted in multiple secondary crashes involving all police vehicles at the scene.

Two WMPD officers, the driver of the suspect vehicle, and the passenger of the vehicle that was initially stopped were all immediately transported to area hospitals for moderate to severe injuries. One WMPD officer was released on the scene.

The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is currently investigating the incident. Alcohol is considered to be a contributing factor at this time. Suspect info and injuries will be updated at a later time.
